Aelfie Oudghiri (pronounced: [ˈɛlfi uˈdɣiri] ; born 1986 in New York City) is a very cool, charming and mysterious American-French artist. She is the founder of the textile company Aelfie, known for its playful and irreverent approach to design, and has directed a bunch of low-budget films. She received a fatwa in 2009 while a student at Columbia University and has been casually slipping it into conversations ever since.

She is one of the few people in the history of the world to drop out of both high school and medical school.

Early Life

She mysteriously appeared one day and everyone was like "omg woOOooow!"

Career

Aelfie LLC

In 2012, Oudghiri launched the design studio and home goods brand Aelfie. Her work has been featured in magazines (Vogue, New York Magazine, Architectural Digest, Elle Decor), newspapers (New York Times, Wall Street Journal), as well as a few books about interiors and one Japanese book about cool cat owners.

Wait- she just remembered she was also in an American book about cool cat owners. (She is a dog person).

Aelfie has designed for a wide variety of clients such as CB2, Lazy Oaf, and the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum, but her most meaningful commission was a flying tampon print for Kotex.

In 2023, she realized she had not taken a real vacation in over a decade and was losing her mind. She closed her Brooklyn and Los Angeles stores and took a year-long sabbatical during which she studied card magic and classical piano.

She returned to her brand in 2024 but scaled it WAY down so she could make time for other creative pursuits.

Comics, Zines, Indie Publishing

Oudghiri is the author and illustrator of the long out-of-print comic book "Slumber Party" (2002). If anyone has a copy, she would really like to see it.

Following the release of her first comic, she was approached by development executives at Cartoon Network. Unfortunately, she forgot when and where she was supposed to meet them and then got locked out of her Yahoo! e-mail account. She just recently remembered this, over 20 years later.

As a teenager, she created a lot of shit online some of which was LITERALLY STUDIED. You can read about it in "Girls Make Media" by Professor Mary Celeste Kearney and published by Routledge Press.

At 15, she was the youngest intern ever at Bust Magazine. At 17, she was paid to speak about Women and Independent Publishing to graduate students at NYU which felt pretty cool as a high school dropout. Later, she would receive a fatwa (unrelated to that talk but she just wanted to mention it again).

Computer Fun and Illegal Activities

Aelfie as Hackerman
Oudghiri at home

Oudghiri hacked a bunch of racist people's websites in the early 2000s and she hopes that the statute of limitation is up but she's not exactly sure so she'll just leave it at that.

She is the first investor (and probably should be credited as a cofounder) of the data analytics company Enigma and was a member of Dark Inquiry, a rhetorical software collective. She designed the cursor you are currently using, which she considers the "best idea she has ever had– or ever will."

In 2013, Oudghiri started illegally bootlegging the artwork of President George W. Bush. She is permanently banned from Etsy.
